Fantastic Mr Fox

Author:  Ronald Dahl

Review by: Lydia

Year Group: Year 2

Review:

This book is about a family of foxes that live in a den under a big tree. Three mean and horrible farmers are trying to kill Fantastic Mr Fox because he is clever and steals his food from their farms. Mr Fox has to dig a really long tunnel so that he can save his family and get food for them and his friends. I think you should read the story to find out what happens and how Mr Fox loses his tail!

I think anyone who likes stories about clever animals will enjoy this book. It is exciting to read and I really enjoyed it.

This zoo is not for you

Author:  Ross Collins

Review by: Class 2

Year Group: Years 1 and 2

Review:

This book is about a zoo and a platypus who wants to join.

The other animals were mean, but they were kind at the end.

The text rhymes, making it fun read.

There is a lesson for us all about friendship and appreciating difference.

The 26 Storey TreeHouse

Author:  Andy Griffiths & Terry Denton

Review by: Angelique

Year Group: Year 2

Review:

This book is about the advenrures of two boys (Andy & Terry) and one girl (Jill) in their treehouse. One of Terry’s silly ideas was trying to wash his underpants in the shark tank! The sharks got so sick after eating Terry’s underpants that they had to operate on the sharks to get the underpants out!

I liked this book because it is really funny.  My favourite charachter is Terry, because he is up to mischief most of the time.

Milly Molly Mandy and co

Review by: Eliana

Year Group: Year 2

Review:

Milly Molly Mandy always has fun on her adventures, wearing her red and white dress. On one of her adventures she dresses up like a lady, with her friend called Susan. Then they had to go to the shops,  so they dared each other to go to the shops as ladies. They didn’t want to see Billy Blunt because he would recognise them and ruin their game, however they spyed him following them.

I liked this book because I like how the author has written lots of good stories in one and how they’re all different but different in a good way.

Picklewitch and Jack

Author:  Claire Barker

Review by: Archie

Year Group: Year 2

Review:

In this story there were two characters called Picklewitch and Jack.  They weren’t best of friends.  Jack had to go to a new school because he had moved house.  Picklewitch went to the same school and made Jack be in a lot of trouble for making him climb on to the school roof.  He got told off by his teacher.  The next day the class cat was stolen so Jack had to go to the Headteacher’s office because he was suspected of being behind it.  When Jack said sorry the Headteacher gave him a second chance and she let him be the team captain for a quiz.  Jack’s team won the quiz.  I liked this story a bit but not a lot because there wasn’t a lot of detail.

Review:

Every night Mr Fox goes down to Boggis, Bunce or Bean’s farm and snatches whatever he can find to feed him and his family. Because of that, the horrible farmers get very mad and try to kill the Fox by trying to dig him out with shovels, then mechanical machines. Mr Fox has to think out a clever plan before he and his family starve.

The book made me feel like I had to keep reading it to find out what happened next. I recommend that all my friends read it!

The boy who dreamed of dragons

Author:  Andy Shepherd

Review by: Archie

Year Group: Year 2

Review:

This book was about a boy, named Thomas, and his grandad who had a dragonfruit tree.  Once Thomas stepped on one of the fruits.  He knelt down to see if it was OK and a blue dragon appeared out of the fruit.  He called the dragon Zing.  Thomas and Zing met a girl called Aura.  Thomas showed Zing to Aura even though Zing was a secret.  But that was OK because he told Aura to keep it a secret.  Thomas, Aura and Zing went to a garden centre to get some more dragonfruit seeds because there aren’t many dragonfruit trees.

I liked this book because it also made me dream of dragons.

Horrible Geography: Violent Volcanoes

Author:  Anita Ganeri

Review by: Archie

Year Group: Year 2

Review:

This book is about volcanoes.  I learnt that lava above the ground is called lava and when it is under the ground it is called magma.  When mountains are about to erupt they have a big mound on them and then they erupt.  Did you know that people built dams near volcanoes to slow down the flow of the lava?  The idea is that lava gets higher on one side and then slowly dribbles down the other side.  I really enjoyed this book because it told me facts about volcanoes that I never knew before.

Code Name Bananas

Author:  David Walliams

Review by: Archie

Year Group: 2

Review:

This book is about Eric (an 11 year old boy), Uncle Sid (Eric’s great-uncle), and Gertrude the Gorilla.  It is set during the Second World War.  Eric and Sid want to rescue Gertrude because she is going to be put down after escaping her cage.  They use a massive balloon to rescue Gertrude from London Zoo, and they get chased after by policemen and they go to Bognor Regis to escape them.  They go to Seaview Towers and meet two Nazis but they don’t realise that they are Nazis.  Eric, Sid and Gertrude then discover a Nazi plot in which the Nazis plan to go in a U-boat up the River Thames to bomb Winston Churchill.  Eric, Sid and Gertrude get captured and taken aboard the U-boat.  Then they get put in a prison cell.

I really enjoyed reading this book.  I really liked the plan to rescue Gertrude the Gorilla and that they called their plan Code Name Bananas.  I thought this was funny.  I also liked it when they found out about the Nazi plot.

Good Idea, Amelia Jane

Author Enid BlytonReview by Eliana

Year Group 2

Book Review
This book is about lots of toys in a nursery. Amelia Jane is a big, naughty doll who always gets up to mischief. All the smaller toys don’t like her tricks so they try to teach her a lesson.
I like it because when I am bored l can read it to myself and it’s fun to read, but I don’t like it when the toys are mean back to Amelia Jane.

Book Review
This is a book about a horse called Joey who lives at a farm. He gets sold to the army because they needed horses for World War 1. Joey and his rider Captain Nicholls go to war and the story tells of their experiences. It is told from Joey’s point of view, and I really liked it.
If you read it, it will tell you a lot about horses.
