Book Review
In these books there is a boy called Ash who has a guardian called Tobu who is a grumpy Yeti. He comes from the Fira Stronghold and has astonishing magical powers. Across these two books Ash sets out on a quest to find his parents, and has many twists and turns thrown his way. These see him join a Pathfinder sleigh and ride on the back of a Shrieker. All Ash ever wants is to find his parents and live with them forever but when he joins Captain Nuk’s sleigh, the crewmembers become his family. Will he ever find his real parents?
Ash’s adventures are thrilling and practically scream for you to read them! I would recommend these books to anyone age 9+ and give it 5 out of 5 stars. I can’t wait for book 3 to come out!!

Book Review
Moon Dog is an amazing book about a tall boy named Marcus and a short girl named Delilah.
After finding their friendship they discover more and more wicked secrets about the empty house next door. They both want a dog and a big Newfoundland loves Marcus’s company. Marcus found his enemies after they wanted him in their gang. There are a few sad bits that dog lovers won’t enjoy but otherwise it’s an excellent book.

Icarus was Ridiculous

Author Pamela Butchart  Review by Sasha

Book Review
This excellent book is about a girl named Izzy who tells her friends and an annoying boy named Gary Greek Myths to make sure they make the right decision. My favourite myth was The Trojan Horse. These myths are very funny because the writer (Pamela Butchart) changed them a bit.

Amelia Fang and the Memory Thief

Book Review
I thought it was a great book, especially since I like hypnotizing! It doesn’t include hypnotizing but it is close enough. Two of the values I think a good book should have are suspense and horror and it included them both. (It’s not really horror!) As I said, it is a great book. Probably my favourite out of the entire series!! I would only recommend it for Years 5 to 6 as any younger might get scared and any older a little bit bored. Still, the book is really fun and adventurous as Amelia Fang and her friends go off on yet another adventure!!😍😍🤣🤣😂😂😁😁

The Hobbit

Book Review
The Hobbit is a really interesting book about a hobbit called Bilbo, 12 dwarves and a wizard.

They go on an adventure to reclaim the dwarves’ lost gold but they encounter trolls, goblins, giant spiders and a dragon. The dragon is called Smaug and he stole the gold from the dwarves in the first place (dragons are attracted to gold and live forever, unless they are killed).

This book is very similiar to Harry Potter and I would recommend it to year 4 and up and bookworms!

Harry Potter and the Order of the Phoenix

Author J.K.Rowling

Review by Harriet

Book Review
Harry Potter and the Order of the Phoenix is the 5th book in the Harry Potter series. In this book Harry is starting his 5th year at Hogwarts school of witchcraft and wizardry along with his friends, Ron Weasley and Hermione Granger. Last year the dark wizard Lord Voldemort returned.

Whilst Harry’s headmaster Albus Dumbledore restarts his army against Lord Voldemort, Harry starts up a student army to train students in proper defense against the dark arts as their teacher Professor Umbridge won’t allow them to practice defensive spells. My favorite part is when Harry is training his army. I think the main themes are loyalty and good verses evil. I chose to review this book because I really enjoyed reading it. Before I read this book I already knew most of the characters from reading the previous books.I think the differences between Harry Potter and the Philosophers Stone (the first book) and Harry Potter and the Order of the Phoenix are that the problems are bigger, more dangerous and more grown-up and Harry is less of a child and more of an adult.

Character Descriptions:
Harry: brave, kind and powerful
Ron: funny and loyal
Hermione: clever and hard working

I would recommend this book for 8+ who enjoy stories about magic and adventure and have read the previous books.

The Autobiograpy of Frankie Dettori

Author Frankie Dettori

Review by Isabella

Year Group 5

Book Review
This book documents the life of Frankie Dettori, whose real name is Lanfranco. Frankie was born on the 15th December 1970 in Milan, Italy.

The book talks about his family as well as his racing highs and lows.

Frankie Dettori is the son of a successful Jockey.

His family are:
Alessandra (Sister),
Gianfranco (Father),
Mario (Grandfather),
Iris Maria (Mother) and
Christine (Stepmother).

Football was the most popular sport in Milan so it was harder to get into horses but when Frankie was 8 years old, his Father bought him a palomino pony (Silvia).

Frankie Dettori was 9 years old when he won his first derby at San Siro racecourse on his pony Silvia.

He trained to be a jockey with Luca Cumani and has ridden many of his horses. He was quite a cheeky boy when he was working at the stables. He was always playing tricks on people and being very irritating. He also was very good at copying other riders’ riding styles.

Frankie Dettori is now best known for riding winners from Sheikh Mohammed’s Godolphin stable and of course his flying dismount when he wins a race!

Frankie has travelled around the world to race and often covers many miles in one day when driving/flying from one racecourse to another across the country (United Kingdom)
The scariest part in The Autobiography of Frankie Dettori was in Chapter 1 when Frankie was on an aeroplane taking off from Newmarket Racecourse. The aeroplane crash landed. This was the scariest bit because when the aeroplane crashed it caught on fire.

I enjoyed reading about Frankie Dettori and his life although I did struggle with some of the Italian names.

This book is completely different to others I have read because most books I read are fiction and this book is non-fiction.

I would recommend this book to anyone who like horses and are interested in racing.

It’s utterly bonkers and then a bit more- you’ll love every madcap moment of Andy’s hilarious dialogue. Like when she wrote ‘as the birds chirped in the trees and the rabbits chirped in their burrows’ . This book is a great book to read for all ages.

The diary of a twelve year old boy starts at his house and ends at home, but the adventure in between is a roller coaster of bad, good and exciting twists. Like the time when he found himself accidentally naked on a beach with a camera! All in all, a great read!
